Christopher Newman, Eit’s Expertise Growing up as the son of a Mining Engineer, my brother and I spent many hours testing, modeling, and analyzing rock. However, it was only during my first summer underground and seeing my first roof fall that I began connecting the dots and asking the bigger question of why. After obtaining a BS in Civil Engineering, working as a rock mechanics engineer at Patriot Coal, and then returning to West Virginia University for a MS in Mining Engineering, the question of why only became larger and more complex. Currently, I am working towards my doctorate at the University of Kentucky under Dr. Agioutantis with a focus in ground control. My research interests include rock mechanics, monitoring and data management systems, and sustainable development.
